Marc Shaener

Marc Shaener has worked in the recycling industry for 20 years. Mr. Shaener began his career in the industry at Prins Recycling Corporation where within three years he was promoted to Chief Operating Officer, took the company public and increased revenues to over $200 million per year. During his career, he has built, developed and operated over 20 regional materials recovery facilities throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. Mr. Shaener is the prior United States representative of Europarec, the governing body of recovered paper trade within and between Europe and the United States.

He has developed a comprehensive LEED compliant construction waste management program for EnviroSolutions. This program has transformed the way that construction waste is managed throughout the Mid-Atlantic.

Since the beginning of 2008, he has chaired the Advocacy Committee for the Maryland Chapter of the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) and recently added the role of Advocacy Chair for the National Capital Region chapter of the USGBC. This has included organizing and advancing the efforts of each chapter in propagating legislative initiatives in Maryland that are unmatched throughout the country. For 2009, Mr. Shaener was appointed to the Board of USGBC’s Maryland Chapter. At the 4th Annual Awards celebration of USGBC Maryland, Mr. Shaener received the President's Award for leadership in Green Building.
